Primary Purpose:

Provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the district’s assigned grade-level teaching and learning programs. Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum, instructional practices, and professional learning to ensure rigorous, equitable, and standards-aligned learning experiences for all students. Partner with campus and district leaders to strengthen instructional capacity, use data to guide program improvement, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. Advance a culture of high expectations, innovation, and collaborative problem-solving that supports student achievement and instructional excellence across all assigned campuses.

 

Qualifications:

Education and Certification

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or a closely related field
  • Doctorate degree in education, curriculum & instruction, or related field (preferred)
  • Valid Texas administrative certificate issued by the State Board for Educator Certification
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate, with grade-level experience relevant to the assignment

 

Experience

  • Five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Three (3) years of successful campus administrator experience (preferred)
  • Experience leading curriculum and instructional improvement initiatives, providing coaching to instructional leaders, and facilitating professional learning communities

Knowledge and Skills

  • Expert knowledge in highly effective instructional practices reflective of current trends based on educational research
  • Expert knowledge of curriculum evaluation, design, and development processes
  • Extensive knowledge of evidence-based principles of staff development, along with the ability to plan, facilitate, and evaluate professional learning that drives instructional improvement
  • Comprehensive knowledge of using assessment and achievement data to inform instructional and programmatic decisions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of district, state, and federal instructional requirements to ensure compliance and support informed decision-making
  • Comprehensive knowledge of budget development, resource allocation, and personnel management
  • Advanced ability to supervise, coach, and develop high-performing instructional teams across multiple campuses
  • Advanced ability to analyze and interpret policy and to apply procedural and data insights to shape strategic initiatives and improve systemwide outcomes
  • Advanced organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Advanced ability to collaborate effectively with district departments/divisions
  • Demonstrate ability to design, launch, and implement large-scale instructional and programmatic initiatives across multiple campuses

 

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Leadership

  • Ensure effective implementation of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) across all assigned curricular areas.
  • Lead the design, review, and enhancement of curriculum documents through ongoing analysis, systemic feedback, and collaboration with instructional staff.
  • Facilitate the integration of instructional technologies to strengthen curriculum delivery and student engagement.
  • Involve appropriate specialists, teachers, parents, and students (when appropriate) in curriculum development and instructional material selection.

Instructional Quality & Program Improvement

  • Monitor instructional and managerial processes systematically to ensure program alignment with district goals and desired student outcomes.
  • Use program data and evidence of outcomes to inform corrective actions, guide continuous improvement, and recognize successful practices.
  • Support schools in providing equitable instructional opportunities for all students.
  • Lead districtwide professional learning that enhances instructional effectiveness, curriculum implementation, and teacher capacity.
  • Assist in establishing and advancing a shared vision for district and campus improvement aligned to strategic priorities.

Collaboration, Communication & Culture

  • Foster collaborative decision-making, collegiality, and team-building across assigned campuses and district departments.
  • Communicate expectations that align with district objectives and promote a culture of high performance and shared accountability.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and employ inclusive, respectful interpersonal practices.
  • Anticipate, manage, and resolve conflict effectively and constructively.
  • Represent the district professionally at local, regional, and state levels.

Leadership & Personnel Development

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and actionable feedback to curriculum and instructional staff to support growth and performance.
  • Recommend personnel placement, transfer, retention, and employment actions within the assigned Teaching and Learning department.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively to maximize productivity, efficiency, and instructional impact.

Compliance, Policy & Fiscal Stewardship

  • Implement and monitor adherence to federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy related to curriculum and instruction.
  • Define program needs during budget planning and ensure resources are aligned to instructional goals.
  • Exercise responsible fiscal oversight for assigned program budgets.
  • Stay current on educational research; analyze and disseminate emerging trends, opportunities, and best practices.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Identify and recommend effective approaches for engaging families and the community in support of instructional improvement and student success.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and expectations as outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Attend school board meetings, community events, and district activities as required.
  • Engage in strategic planning, leadership collaboration, and continuous professional growth aligned with the goals of the department and district.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the department and district.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, evaluate, and provide leadership development for departmental leadership staff (e.g., directors, coordinators, and other assigned supervisory roles)
  • Recommend employment actions (hiring, placement, renewal, and nonrenewal) for department personnel.
