General Description

The Outpatient Biopsychosocial Intervention (OBI) Lead works under the Program Manager of IDD Crisis Services to provide administrative oversight and support to the Outpatient Biopsychosocial Intervention (OBI) program. This role ensures that the program is delivering services and performing in accordance with HHSC program requirements.

Individuals served through OBI will have IDD and co-occurring mental health needs such as severe mental illnesses, substance use disorders and/or chronic health conditions. OBI staff operate in a dynamic environment, develop extensive knowledge of community resources, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. Interventions and services are typically provided in the community or wherever necessary to facilitate progress for the individuals served.

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social, behavioral, or human service field including, but not limited to: psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, education or criminal justice.
  • At least one year of experience with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is required. Additional experience with individuals with mental illness is preferred.

Registration, Certification, Licensure, and Other Qualifications

  • Must have and maintain a background and criminal history free from any disqualifying offenses as outlined by the Texas Administrative Code (TAC) and the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
    • Individuals with an out-of-state driver's license must be able to obtain a driver's license in the state of Texas within thirty (30) days.
  • Successful completion of all position-specific training within thirty (30) days of employment and ongoing compliance with annual training requirements is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities and services available in and near Denton County.
  • Skills include assessment of individual support needs, historical information, and identifying treatment goals.
  • English/Spanish bi-lingual preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions quickly.
  • Ability to display regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and report data.
  • Ability to communicate professionally in written and oral communication.
  • All job specific training must be completed within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to consistently meet HHSC deadlines.
  • Ability to display regular and reliable (in-person, if required) attendance.
  • Understanding and practice of Trauma Informed Care principles.

Essential Duties

The following list outlines key responsibilities for the position; however, it is not exhaustive and does not encompass all responsibilities. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

1. Oversee and maintain the OBI Program Caseload

  • Ensure that the program is serving the minimum 25 participants per month as required by HHSC.
  • If a waitlist is enacted, monitor the waitlist and assign in new participants as space allows.

2. Conduct OBI program screenings to determine participant eligibility.

3. Review Person Centered Recovery Plans to ensure that SMART goals are reflected.

4. Ensure staff completion of PCRPs every 90 days for each program participant for the duration of their enrollment.

5. Prepare and submit HHSC quarterly reports in March, June, September, and December.

6. Assist with community trainings.

7. Assist with seeking out and building skills training repertoire.

8. Facilitate weekly meetings to ensure program compliance with HHSC performance metrics and to review cases.

9. Participates in the Center's Zero Suicide Initiative.

  • Supports individuals experiencing a crisis by promptly connecting them with appropriate Center programs, such as the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT), Psychiatric Triage, Crisis Prevention services, and/or other applicable resources. Ensure seamless coordination to facilitate timely intervention.
  • Remains with individuals, when deemed safe, to provide support and maintain a calm environment until specialized crisis staff or emergency personnel arrive to take over intervention efforts. Adheres to safety protocols to prevent escalation of the crisis situation.
  • Participates in debriefing sessions with the immediate supervisor or designated staff following a crisis event. Collaborate with the team to review the incident, identify lessons learned, and ensure all HHSC guidelines and Center policies are followed.
