Dental Assistant
Position Summary:
The Dental Assistant supports dentists and hygienists during dental procedures, ensures high-quality patient care, and maintains the cleanliness and efficiency of the dental office. This role involves a blend of clinical assistance, patient communication, and administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support:
Prepare treatment rooms by setting up instruments, materials, and equipment.
Assist the dentist during procedures including examinations, restorations, extractions, and cleanings.
Hand instruments and materials to the dentist and maintain a clear working field using suction and irrigation.
Take, process, and mount dental X-rays (digital and/or film).
Perform sterilization and infection-control procedures according to OSHA.
Prepare and mix dental materials such as cements, impression materials, and restorative materials.
Take dental impressions and pour up study models (as permitted by state regulations).
Provide postoperative instructions and education to patients.
Monitor dental equipment performance and arrange repairs as needed.
Patient Care:
Greet and seat patients, ensuring comfort and reducing anxiety.
Document medical history, vital signs, and treatment information accurately.
Explain procedures and answer patient questions.
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Administrative Duties
Schedule appointments and manage patient records.
Verify insurance information and assist with billing or payments.
Track and order dental supplies and maintain inventory.
Ensure compliance with office policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited Dental Assistant program (preferred).
Knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, and procedures.
Proficiency with dental software (Dentrix, Decis, and microsoft office suites).
Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
Good manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination.
Ability to lift or move up to 25 lbs when needed
