Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize dental instruments following strict infection control protocols, including dental sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques.
- Assist dentists chairside during various procedures by handing instruments, managing dental materials, and ensuring patient comfort through effective chairside assisting techniques.
- Take and develop dental x-rays and 3D scans, ensuring high-quality medical imaging for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Manage patient records using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation and coding while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations for clinical confidentiality policies.
- Educate patients on oral health practices, post-operative care, and treatment options while managing patient management software to schedule appointments and follow-ups efficiently.
- Monitor vital signs of patients when necessary, especially in pediatric dentistry or oral surgery cases, ensuring safety throughout dental procedures.
- Support the dental team with general administrative duties including answering the phone as a dental receptionist, managing medical records, and coordinating with other healthcare providers when needed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of dental terminology, equipment, and procedures.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic; experience with medical coding is a plus.
- Strong understanding of infection prevention management, sterilization procedures, and aseptic techniques aligned with healthcare infection control standards.
- Knowledge of dental x-ray techniques and ability to operate radiography equipment safely; certification in dental radiography is preferred.
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices and the unique needs of pediatric patients is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively educate patients and collaborate with the dental team.
- Ability to handle sensitive medical documentation with discretion while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Certification or training in basic life support (BLS) or CPR is advantageous.
