Welder

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1.      Position components in jigs or fixtures and prepare them for welding.

2.      Connect and set up equipment (fuel gas cylinders, welding wire, etc.).

3.      Operate wire welding equipment according to specifications.

4.      Perform tack welds and weld along lines as directed.

5.      Inspect welds for proper bead size and quality.

6.      Grind, chip, or clean welds to remove excess slag or splatter.

7.      Stage completed products for transport to finishing areas.

8.      Operate gantry cranes and other material handling equipment as needed.

9.      Use the computer system to record time and job data.

10.  Assist in other production areas assigned (painting, shearing, etc.).

11.  Maintain work area cleanliness and follow housekeeping standards.

12.  Demonstrate teamwork and positive communication with coworkers.

13.  Follow all company safety, quality, and policy requirements.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Ability to read and follow simple written and verbal instructions.

Basic math skills (whole numbers, fractions, decimals).

Ability to recognize acceptable welds and apply proper technique.

Ability to use hand and power tools for finishing work.

Computer skills for basic data entry and timekeeping.

Mechanical aptitude and ability to change welding wire rolls and gas cylinders.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must pass pre-determined welding exam. 

One to three years prior welding experience preferred.  Manufacturing experience, a plus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certified forklift driver.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, twist and move about the facility.  Employee regularly uses hands to grip, finger, handle, or feel; reaches with hands and arms.  Must be able to push, pull and move equipment and/or supplies in excess of 50 pounds, and have ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.  Must be able to distinguish colors.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.  The employee is occasionally required to operate a computer, use the telephone, sit, kneel, squat and lay.  Frequent exposure to elements such as odors, oil, fumes and noise.

Employee must wear required personal protective equipment, including hardhat, safety glasses with side shields, goggles/face shields, hearing protection in designated areas, Kevlar gloves, and/or other equipment as task dictate.  For specific equipment, see the Hazard Assessment for the work area and type of operation being performed.
