Responsibilities:
The Coordinator of Student Support Services is a full-time position in the DSU Student Success Center, funded 70% from the University and 30% through grants/external funds. The Coordinator reports to the Executive Director of the Student Success Center and works closely with all Student Success Center divisions and on/off campus constituencies.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate creation, planning, promotion, and implementation of special Center-related events to increase student/faculty/staff awareness of the Center and targeted retention efforts;
- Create/manage the Center's media content, including social media, website, radio, print media, etc.;
- Provide help to students requiring individualized assistance in study skills, organizational skills, time management, or any other academically-related need;
- Plan/conduct retention-related and study skills' workshops held throughout the year;
- Coordinate and monitor Student Success Center fiscal operations to ensure a streamlined approach, including purchasing, inventory, supplies/materials;
- Monitor Center's budget and expenses utilizing Banner and Excel, while in accordance with internal DSU and external fiscal operating guidelines and procedures;
- Serve as initial point of contact for University departments; including accounting, facilities management, procurement, student business services, etc.;
- Coordinate personnel processes; including leave time, time sheet logs, and campus access;
- Hire/train/supervise student tutors, supplemental instructors, graduate assistants, and volunteers;
- Collaborate with team to plan and implement strategies to improve DSU student retention;
- Follow guidelines with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) as they pertain to the students' rights to privacy and accuracy and retention of academic records;
- Stay abreast of opportunities in retention and various majors to identify strategies to address issues hindering success and re-entry barriers; and;
- Any other duties as assigned related to student success and student support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree required, masters degree preferred.
- Experience in working with at-risk students, academic support, higher education, event planning, and teaching academic skills workshops preferred.
- Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and new media (such as Websites, Facebook, Twitter, etc.); with Banner and Canvas experience preferred.
- Demonstrated record of: Strong leadership, interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing, evolving department.
- Integrity and commitment to developing and maintaining the highest academic standards and working with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
- Plan and budget time wisely, be motivated and take initiative.
- Knowledge of test-taking strategies, time management, and study techniques.
- Must be a United States citizen or have legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Bachelors degree required.
