Position Summary
The Maintenance Worker at Delta School is responsible for performing a variety of routine and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure that the school’s buildings, classrooms, and grounds remain clean, safe, and fully operational for students, staff, and visitors. This position plays an important role in maintaining a positive and supportive learning environment for students with diverse needs.
Key Responsibilities
· Building & Equipment Maintenance
Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance of the school facility, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general repair work.
Complete work orders promptly and report major repair needs to the Director of Facilities.
Repair or replace fixtures, doors, windows, tiles, and other structural or mechanical components as needed.
Monitor heating, cooling, and ventilation systems to ensure proper operation.
· Preventive Maintenance & Safety
Follow established preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and building systems.
Identify and report potential safety hazards and assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA and local safety regulations.
Participate in snow removal, ice management, and other seasonal upkeep tasks.
· Grounds & Environmental Care
Maintain school grounds including mowing, trimming, planting, and general landscaping.
Maintain outdoor areas, parking lots, and walkways to ensure safety and cleanliness.
Support environmental and recycling initiatives within the school.
· Collaboration & Support
Work cooperatively with custodial, housekeeping, and administrative teams to meet facility needs.
Assist with setting up classrooms, furniture, and equipment for events or special programs.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests to minimize classroom disruptions.
Qualifications
· Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of two years’ experience in maintenance, building operations, or a related field preferred.
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work.
· Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Ability to use tools and equipment safely and effectively.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Sensitivity to the needs of students with disabilities and the importance of maintaining a calm, safe environment.
Working Conditions
Work performed both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks. May require evening or weekend hours for emergencies or special school events.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Director of Facilities based on work quality, reliability, safety practices, and contribution to maintaining a safe and functional learning environment.

Pay: $25,000.00 - $27,000.00 per year
