Position Summary
The Emergency Department (ED) EMT functions as a frontline caregiver, working collaboratively with physicians and registered nurses to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the EMT supports clinical operations and provides care to patients of all ages while operating within their defined scope of practice and hospital policies.
This role plays a vital part in ensuring patient and family needs are met, maintaining safety standards, and supporting efficient communication within the care team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to physicians and RNs to optimize patient care within scope of practice
- Monitor and report patient conditions and any changes to appropriate staff
- Assist with patient care coordination as directed
- Perform hourly rounding, charting, and maintain communication boards
- Participate in bedside shift reports at the start and end of shifts
- Clean, stock, and prepare patient rooms and equipment
- Assist with wound care, patient positioning, and application of splints and dressings
- Transport patients to various departments as needed
- Assist with resuscitation, CPR, and emergency airway procedures
- Obtain and document vital signs; apply monitoring equipment (cardiac, pulse oximetry, blood pressure)

Perform technical procedures such as:
- 12-lead EKGs
- IV starts and blood draws
- Discontinuation of IV lines and saline/heparin locks
- Specimen handling for lab analysis
- Point-of-care testing
- Decontaminate equipment, instruments, and supplies
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation
- Perform all duties within EMT scope of practice
Required Qualifications
- Current EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, or EMT-Intermediate certification in the State of Colorado (required upon hire)
- IV Certification (required upon hire)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required upon hire)
- Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience preferred

Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking and prolonged standing

Ability to lift:
- 40–80 lbs independently
- 80–250 lbs with assistance
- Manual dexterity for operating medical equipment (e.g., cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters)
- Ability to perform patient assessments through palpation and inspection
- Capability to document care accurately in an electronic health record system
- Ability to hear and respond to equipment alarms and prompts
- Must safely function in high-stress, fast-paced, and constantly changing environments
