What are the responsibilities and job description for the Damage Prevention Technician position at Delta Field Services, LLC?
Damage prevention technicians are responsible for tasks in locating, identifying, and marking underground utilities; reading and interpreting utility maps to identify type and size of utilities; complying with State Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act & the State Underground Utility Marking Standards.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform tasks to locate, identify, and mark utilities in roadways, green spaces, and sometimes hard to access locations.
- Read and interpret record maps, blueprints, drawings, geographic information systems (GIS), and valve guides.
- Operate different electronic detection equipment to locate and mark utilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
- Review, process, and clear utility locate tickets using a ticket management system
- Utilize stakes, flags, and/or paint to mark the location of utilities
- Understand requirements with roadway work zones and identify when additional traffic support is needed.
- Prepare various reports, forms, photos to document work completed, and problems encountered and/or resolved
- Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct work activities with minimal supervision based on specific instructions and schedules
- Inform supervisor of special situations and problem areas
- Perform general labor and physical activities as required
- Respond to emergency calls during scheduled on-call shift rotation.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualification Requirements
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to plan, organize, and prioritize workload
- Must have good time management and organizational skills
- Must be currently authorized to work for any U.S. employer
- Must have and maintain a valid drivers license
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Must have the physical dexterity to accomplish the duties defined herein
- Must have the ability to walk, climb, stand, stoop, lift above head, pull, push, kneel, or bend for over 75% of time
- Must have the ability to identify colors used in work
- Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds
- Must have the ability to work in OSHA designated noise environments (> 85 decibels)
- Must have the ability to work in all weather conditions, high traffic areas, and heavily vegetated areas and at all hours of the day
- Must have ability to work extended hours on nights, weekends, and holidays during an emergency event
- Must have the ability to recognize problems quickly and use good judgment in locating the most appropriate guideline or practice to follow with little or no supervision to solve problems
- Must be available to travel up to 75% of the time
Experience Desired
- Understanding of utility systems
- Prior utility construction experience
- Prior experience with ground penetrating radar (GPR)
- Prior experience reading maps or blueprints
- Prior experience locating utilities
