What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tooling Assistant position at DeLine Box & Display?
The Tooling Assistant is responsible for preparing pre-production traveler, delivery and retrieval of plates, Print Card and dies to and from converting cells. Responsible for tooling inspection prior to and after production run and determines if tooling has run ability quality issues. Cleans and repairs tooling as necessary. Assists with tooling inventory control.
Essential Functions:
Maintain work schedules by using Factory Work Orders distributed by scheduling. Prepare preproduction Traveler with Factory Work Order and Print Card. Using Factory Work Order and Print Card cross-reference and retrieve tooling (plates and/or dies). Log tooling order data in Tool Room Log. Deliver and retrieve plates, print card and dies from machine staging areas and print files.
Return tooling and Print Card to dedicated staging area and files. May reassign location if necessary and update Tool Room Log file.
Inspect tooling for damage, before and after each production run for run ability nonconformance quality issues. Maintain communication with supervisors regarding tooling run ability issues. Notify Tooling Technician Lead if tooling may require replacement.
Clean and repair plates and dies if necessary, including washing, trimming, sealing, taping, re-attaching, chiseling, cutting, stitching, binding using various tools, cleaners, parts, materials and adhesives.
Update and install tooling parts and material with up-to-date customer data and company specifications including print numbers, logos, stamping, etc.
Effective operation of a computer including but not limited to: HRMS, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, CTI and EFI
Under the direction of the Tooling Technician Lead, assist with tooling inventory control. Periodically perform tooling cycle count. Dispose of or return to customer obsolete or slow-moving tooling inventory. May remove and recycle parts and materials for future use.
File and archive tooling records per record control procedures.
Produce Inventory Cycle Counts on tooling to ensure proper storage and purges
Back up Tooling Technician Lead as needed.
Perform basic preventative maintenance duties.
Assist in operating production machines whenever requested
Perform daily housekeeping duties.
Comply and follow all health/safety rules and regulations.
Must be able to lift at least 80lbs repeatedly throughout the day, at least 5 feet off the ground.
Travel requirements: no regular travel required.
Scheduled shift: 7:00am – 3:00pm
Any other duties assigned to help reach company’s goals.

Ability to learn what dies and plates are compatible with the Company’s converting equipment.
Ability to learn how dies are made, application and function in the converting process including cutting, scoring, trimming, slotting, folding and flaps.
Ability to learn plate application and function in the printing process.
Knowledge of inventory management and warehouse organization.
Knowledge of document and record control principles and practices.
Thorough working knowledge of tooling and purchasing policies, processes, and procedures.
Ability to maintain a regular and predictable work schedule with punctual attendance.
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
90 days of related experience preferred.
Experience in manufacturing, especially corrugated, strongly preferred.
Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred.
Pay Range:
- $20.00- $26.00
