What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Worker - Dairy position at Delaware Valley University?
Job Summary: DVU Dairy is looking for a team of motivated individuals that have a genuine desire to learn through hands on work in the dairy facility. It is our desire to build a team of positive employees that are willing to learn and accomplish the many tasks that are required on a daily basis. Employees work an average of 15-20 hours per week, and one weekend per month. The schedule is reasonably flexible allowing students to take classes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mix and distribute feed to the different animal groups housed at the facility
- Maintain a clean, healthy, and attractive facility
- Clean and maintain bedded animal areas
- Assist with the herd health care tasks
- Maintain landscape areas such as mowing, trimming, and flower bed care
- Assist with general maintenance of the facility
- Other duties as assigned
Education Employment eligibility:
- Currently enrolled Delaware Valley University student
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide required documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Some farm and animal experience preferred but not necessary
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Occasionally lifting 25 lbs or less
- Frequently lifting 25 lbs or more
- Typically standing or walking
- Typically bending, crouching, stooping
- Climbing ladders, scaffolds
- Using tools requiring high dexterity
- Outdoor exposure to weather
- Exposure to moving machinery
- Exposure to unpleasant odors
- Exposure to animal feces and specimens
- May be exposed to animal contagious diseases
- High noise environment
- High dust, dirt, grease environment
- May have an alternative work schedule
- May be required to be on-call
- Need to be able to be up early in the morning
