General Description of the Position

Reporting to the Department Chair, the adjunct for psychology is a semester-by-semester appointment. The department adjuncts are responsible for teaching across the curriculum. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the program, to equity, and to inclusive education, and possess the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse academic environment. The qualified candidate will be adaptable and capable of teaching a variety of courses, both online and in-person, within the department. The University expects that each member of the department will display a high degree of professionalism. By accepting and assuming an adjunct position, your duties include, but are not limited to, the following professional responsibilities and obligations.

Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing this job.


  • To maintain professionalism, competence and knowledge of subject matter and strive to keep informed of contemporary development in the field of specialization through reading and research.
  • To meet each class as scheduled and conduct each class according to the highest professional standards.
  • To distribute to each student at the beginning of the semester a syllabus for each course containing the course description, course objectives, policies concerning attendance, course requirements, and criteria for grading.
  • To submit the syllabus and office hours to the chair at the outset of the semester for each course taught.
  • To be available to students for advising and counseling on matters regarding their academic performance and progress in class.
  • To treat all students fairly, impartially, and with understanding.
  • To maintain adherence to course descriptions in accordance with the syllabus and the Course Catalog.
  • To demonstrate and maintain professional competence and knowledge of subject matter pertinent to specialization area(s) and psychology practice.
  • To adhere to deadlines and schedules established for the timely reporting of non-participation, grades and for other matters related to student registration and record keeping.
  • To keep an accurate and complete class gradebook book on the university platform.
  • Immediately following the deadline for non-participation, reporting of mid-term and final grades will be submitted to the chair.

  • Must be able to teach a variety of courses within the curriculum, undergraduate and/or graduate.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students within a university setting.
  • Strong ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work within a team.
  • Create innovative educational experiences and provide an environment where students are partners in learning
  • Collegiality.
  • Ability to perform other functions as assigned.

Qualification Standards

  • Education: Master’s degree in psychology from an accredited institution. Terminal degree in psychology preferred.
  • Experience with evidence-based pedagogy preferred
