The job of Teacher – Lead is established for the purpose of supporting program staff in providing individualized services for students in the least restrictive environment. This position supports teachers in student achievement, communication, sensory access, interpersonal skills, activities of daily living, and overall program operations. The role additionally includes specialized responsibilities for the Early Intervention (Birth–3) and Infant–Toddler programs for students with vision and hearing needs
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with program and school staff to develop data collection tools supporting analysis and interpretation of student progress.
- Collaborate and consult with instructional staff to promote a cohesive learning community and support continuous improvement aligned to student IEPs/IFSPs.
- Coordinate activities such as professional development trainings, staff schedules, student schedules, and staff in-service/PLC meetings.
- Demonstrate preventative, positive, and respectful behavior management strategies and assist teachers in identifying needs for behavior plans.
- Monitor and assist with collection, organization, and analysis of assessment data to ensure measurable progress toward goals.
- Assist staff in implementing or modifying curriculum, materials, and individualized student plans.
- Respond to inquiries from teachers, families, administrators, districts, and consultants to resolve issues and provide guidance.
- Serve on multidisciplinary, intake, IEP, child review, and behavior review teams.
- Support program staff in planning instructional materials, delivering instruction, and developing IEPs
- Support timely collection and analysis of assessment and progress-monitoring data, including coordination initial and re-evaluations for students transitioning between programs
- Assist with development and implementation of assistive technology.
- Coach and counsel staff to support professional performance.
- Participate in meetings for gathering and providing program information.
- Report incidents related to safety or mandated reporting.
- Respond to emergency situations as needed.
- Perform other related duties to ensure efficient and effective program functioning.
- Assign and maintain databases of service providers for Birth–3 vision and hearing services.
- Assign and maintain databases of service providers for EI and SA hearing and vision department cases.
- Respond to inquiries from audiological centers and report progress for students in the cochlear implant candidacy program.
- Collect and report numbers for the annual Deaf-Blind Count.
- Serve as the hearing/language representative on the EI diagnostic team.
- Assist in managing the EI branch of the hearing/language/vision department.
- Facilitate smooth transitions from EI to school-age services for students entering hearing and/or language classroom-based programs.
- Track EI students and follow up with districts to ensure referrals to hearing, language, and vision departments during kindergarten transitions.
- Provide on-site support in the hearing/language classroom at Aston.
- Assist EI hearing staff with progress monitoring and communication modality decision-making (oral vs. sign).
- Seek opportunities for in-service trainings and presentations on hearing loss, vision services, and DCIU programs for community partners.
- Manage procedures for EI/Birth–3 evaluations for hearing and vision students.
- Assist the supervisor with early intervention case management.
- Ensure equitable caseload assignments based on weekly contact hours.
- Support staff in prioritizing and regionalizing work responsibilities.
- Coordinate annual Birth–3 staff trainings, distribute materials, assist with Professional Leave requests, host in-person sessions, and verify completion of required trainings and clearances.
- Gather and self-monitor provider files and credentials for yearly county verification and state verification at required intervals.
- Write corrective action plans and develop policies based on monitoring results.
- Assist the supervisor in ensuring contracts for facilities, districts, out-of-county placements, and APS programs are updated and signed.
- Coordinate ESY services for K–5 Language Camp and explore ESY options for middle school hearing/language students.
- Update and monitor the TEAMS drive with current departmental documents.
- Oversee EI and SA contracted services including billing, staffing, and registry management.
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in job related area, Master’s degree preferred
Certification Required: PDE Certification as teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing, speech language pathologist or teacher of the visually impaired; Highly Qualified status as needed.
Salary : $58,390 - $74,495
