What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse position at Delaware County Intermediate Unit?
The job of Nurse was established for the purpose/s of implementing the support services with the philosophy and policies approved by the DCIU and DCTS Board of Directors.
- Administer and maintain a record of all prescribed medications and update a file of students’ program permits/emergency medical cards for the purpose of keeping accurate records available.
- Collaborate with the school counselor and other staff for the purpose of identifying students who may be at risk and to address social/emotional needs of students. To provide care and support of special needs students in various settings throughout the Educational Placement.
- Communicate with staff, students, and families (e.g. critical health issues; facilitate full-time student physical exams with their private physician; provide health and wellness counseling) for the purpose of keeping all stakeholders up-to-date with health information/issues.
- Conduct various activities, meetings and conferences (e.g. health and wellness meetings with parents; monthly safety meetings; monthly fire drills; laboratory assessments) for the purpose of meeting DCIU and DCTS requirements, policies and procedures.
- Maintain updated and accurate records (e.g. student list, daily log of students seen by nurse, student medical records – Classmate software, updated Medical Alert list, chemical safety data sheet) for the purpose of complying with policies, procedures and appropriate laws.
- Perform assessments (e.g. vital signs and observable behaviors; health concerns) for the purpose of determining the student’s ability to function safely in their program and to determine if 911 should be contacted in serious situations.
- Provide expertise to the instructional and support staff on risk management, safety, and health and wellness matters for the purpose of keeping the faculty informed regarding health issues and updates.
Education Required: Targeted job related education that meets organization’s prerequisite requirements.
Certification Required: RN License or Nursing Certificate
Experience Required: Job related experience required
Experience Preferred: Training experience in job
