Purpose Of Position
The School Head Custodian holds a pivotal role in ensuring that the school’s facilities remain clean, safe, and conducive to learning. This leadership position entails both hands-on work and administrative tasks, encompassing the cleaning and care of school properties, as well as the direction of the custodial team.
Essential Functions
- Lead the custodial team, ensuring efficient performance and adherence to established standards.
- Schedule and delegate tasks and responsibilities to custodial staff based on the school's needs.
- Assist in conducting performance reviews, addressing concerns, and recognizing the efforts of team members in conjunction with the Manager of Custodial Services.
- Plan and schedule summer cleaning and new year preparation tasks.
- Conduct regular team meetings to keep everyone informed and aligned.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors regularly.
- Clean classrooms, restrooms, hallways, gyms, and other school facilities daily.
- Empty and clean waste bins throughout the school.
- Clean and disinfect sinks, countertops, water fountains, and restroom facilities.
- Ensure all windows and glass surfaces are free of smudges and fingerprints.
- Dust furniture, equipment, and other surfaces as needed.
- Engage in cleaning tasks, setting a standard for the custodial team.
- Handle more specialized or advanced maintenance tasks, including minor repairs.
- Conduct regular inspections of school facilities to ensure cleanliness and maintenance standards are met.
- Identify potential issues or hazards and ensure they are addressed promptly.
- Oversee the inventory of cleaning supplies, ensuring materials are available as needed.
- Manage the maintenance, repair, and replacement of cleaning equipment.
- Ensure the safe storage and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Implement and enforce safety standards and protocols.
- Organize training sessions for new hires and periodic refreshers for the team on best practices, new equipment, and safety guidelines.
- Assist in the preparation and management of the custodial budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness in operations.
- Provide regular updates to the Facility Manager/Director of Operations regarding the team's activities, challenges, and recommendations.
- Performs other duties as requested and/or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Education Required: High School or equivalent
Certification Required: Valid Driver’s License
Prefer: 5 years experience in job-related trades preferred
Experience Required: Job-related experience is required.
Other Qualifications: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail; Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; Good communication and interpersonal skills.
