Job Overview
The Assistant Coordinator – Building Superintendent plays a critical role in the day-to-day operations of our indoor vendor spaces during the San Diego County Fair. Acting as the primary point of contact for vendors in their assigned building(s), this position ensures the smooth operation, safety, and integrity of the building throughout the event.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Building Access & Security: Ensure all access points are secure, and only authorized personnel are allowed in.
- Serve as the primary on-site contact for all vendors in your assigned building(s).
- Provide directions, resources, and updates as needed throughout the day.
- Handle vendor concerns professionally and tactfully using strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
- Facility Oversight: Submit facility work orders or maintenance requests when needed.
- Frequently walk the building to monitor vendor operations, address concerns, and maintain a visible and approachable presence.
- Safety & Hazard Awareness: Immediately address or report hazards in compliance with safety protocols.
- Promote and uphold a culture of safety for all fair guests, vendors, and staff.
- Remain vigilant for any potential safety concerns, including trip hazards (e.g., exposed cords, uneven flooring) and fire hazards (e.g., blocked exits, improper use of power strips).
- Report any policy violations, hazards, or emergencies to appropriate staff.
- Daily Walking Rounds:
- Monitor cleanliness, safety, and general upkeep of the building.
- Act as a liaison between vendors and Fair management when necessary.
- Customer Service & Conflict Resolution:
- Address and resolve day-to-day issues vendors may experience (e.g., power outages, spills, lost & found, booth disputes).
- Vendor Support:
- Open/disarm building(s) in the morning and close/arm building(s) at the end of the day.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in customer service, event operations, or vendor coordination preferred.
- Able to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or conflict situations.
- Ability to work on your feet for extended periods and walk long distances throughout the day.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling.
- Comfortable using two-way radios and basic reporting tools.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods in a fast-paced, outdoor/indoor fair environment.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and large crowds.
- May require light lifting (under 25 lbs).
