Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Fort Wayne, IN (Onsite)
About the Role
As our Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll develop new product designs and maintain current ones, spanning both existing customer designs and internally developed products. You'll see designs through from initial concept to production and delivery to the customer.
What You'll Do
- Develop new products and support existing ones.
- Collaborate with customers and other engineering teams to develop product solutions.
- Evaluate new technologies, alternative materials, and processes to incorporate into new and existing products, with a focus on improving cost, quality, and reliability.
- Turn customer-requested changes, improvements, or product variations into design-for-manufacturing solutions.
- Manage your schedule to complete assigned projects on time.
- Conduct and document design reviews as needed.
- Partner with Quality to evaluate field returns and establish root cause.
- Work with Quality teams to define critical parameters for internal or customer requirements, and establish product testing methods to evaluate performance of new and existing products.
- Assist the Procurement team in evaluating alternate materials from suppliers.
- Support customer visits as required.
- Stay current on applicable agency and regulatory requirements for your assigned markets.
- Develop and maintain documentation to support internal Group Dekko regulatory and customer requirements.
- Develop and maintain DFMEAs for new and existing Group Dekko-designed products.
- Assist in specifying tooling and fixturing as needed.
- Incorporate intellectual property opportunities where possible and allowable.
- Help the Manufacturing and Quality teams capture and share critical product design and functional knowledge.
- Take on other projects and assignments as necessary.
What You'll Bring
- Strong communication skills with internal and external customers.
- Excellent follow-up skills that keep customer connections strong.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of current MRP/BPCS systems.
- Demonstrated ability with one or more of the following CAD tool sets: AutoCAD, Pro/E (Creo), or SolidWorks.
- Self-directed, with a strong work ethic and professional attitude.
- Ability to manage multiple project workloads with assigned due dates.
- Experience in a structured and standardized engineering environment.
- Ability to travel up to 15%, with the possibility of some international travel.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of statistical analysis tools.
- Automation engineering experience.
- Good understanding of metal forming, injection molding, plastics extrusion, and assembly processes.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or a minimum of 3 years of product or project engineering experience.
