What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping Clerk position at Deister Machine Company?
SUMMARY
Requisitions transportation from traffic manager to shipping Deister products to customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Adhere to all ISO requirements as stated in the Management Systems Procedures Manual.
Safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection, are required at all times.
Reads shipping orders to determine quantity and type of transportation needed.
Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons.
Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
Inserts items into containers.
Nailscovers on wooden crates and binds containers with tape or metal bands.
Stamps or stencils weights onto containers.
Weighs and records all screens, crates, and boxes.
Loads screens and/or crates onto trucks and ensures that load is safely secured.
Operates forklift, handtruck, or overhead hoists, to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform
to storage/work area, company, customer, or vendor truck.
Contacts carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for loading products.
Annotates shipping orders to inform shipping department of loading location and time of arrival of transportation.
Completes Bill of Ladings with customer information, weights, sizes, and quantities.
May deliver parts to airport, trucking companies, or others as required.
Performs other clerical tasks such as maintaing appropriate files.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple
correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of
the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and
decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to
deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be forklift certified.
Must have valid Indiana driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel;
reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk
and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50
pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather
conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
