Duties

  • Provides direct analytical and management support to the DLA Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff in their executive oversight of the organization.
  • Coordinates and performs a variety of Protocol duties and related tasks for the Military District of Washington, Air Force District of Washington on Ceremonies and Special Events.
  • Directs the planning for casual and formal command functions involving ceremonies, banquets, luncheons and receptions.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with chain of command program managers.
  • Heads of the Corporate Board, PLFA Commanders, Congressional officials, OSD officials of Military Services, executives of other Federal departments, and foreign embassies.
  • Directs the continuous review of programs to measure and evaluate program accomplishments, effectiveness and compliance with agency rules and regulations.
  • Reviews responses from field level activities in response to tasking requirements issued by the DLA Chief of Staff or Deputy Chief of Staff to ensure taskings are completed.
  • Analyzes projected costs of each event and compares actual cost to projections.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Protocol Specialist your resume and supporting documentation must support:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:

  • Establishing cost guidelines for conferences, meetings, etc.
  • Managing resources against approved programs using budget impact analysis
  • Developing of long-range plans and goals in order to implement an Agency-wide program.
  • Coordinating and/or performing a variety of Protocol duties for a large agency/organization.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
