Qualifications: Must hold current and valid Massachusetts licensure as:
Educator PK-2
Educator 1-6
Educator 5-8
Reading Specialist
Minimum of five years successful classroom teaching.
Demonstrated capacity as an effective teacher.
Demonstrated capacity as an effective teacher leader.
Highly effective interpersonal communication and problem solving skills.
Bachelor’s degree in related field required, Master’s or advanced degree preferred.
Highly effective collaborative/team skills.
Able to engage successfully in concurrent complex projects.
Demonstrated skill in applying critical thinking to solve complex and dynamic problems.
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
Essential Job Functions:
Curriculum and Planning
- Supports teachers, other professionals, and teacher teams in planning learning opportunities that are consistent with the District’s vision for teaching and learning.
- Supports teachers, other professionals, and teacher teams in deploying core instructional resources that support implementation of Common Core State Curriculum Standards.
- Works in concert with educators, building based administrators and the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to engage in the ongoing review and improvement of curriculum, instruction, and assessment K-8.
Assessment and Information Management
- Supports teachers, other professionals, and teacher teams in developing and deploying assessment practices and measures that accurately portray student learning and performance.
- Supports teachers, other professionals, and teacher teams in analyzing and interpreting student performance information
Instructional Leadership
- Supports teachers and other professionals in the continuous development and growth of instructional practices that enhance student engagement and learning through:
- Modeling of effective instructional practices.
- Observation of teachers and other professionals.
- Peer observation
- Instructional Rounds
- Other validated coaching practices that enhance teacher learning and growth.
- Works in concert with educators, building based administrators and the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to articulate, define, and share effective instructional practices deployed throughout the district.
- Consistently analyzes teacher practice through observation, data analysis, and examination of student work.
Family and Community Engagement
- Works in concert with educators, building based administrators and the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to engage parents and families in learning opportunities:
- Provide clear and concrete information about the instructional practices used in classrooms.
- Provide guidance and support in deploying strategies at home that are consistent with classroom instructional practices.
Professional Culture
- Serves as building based liaisons to district professional development committee to ensure that professional learning opportunities are narrowly tailored to the needs of teachers and other professionals.
- Works in concert with educators, building based administrators and the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to shape and deliver building based professional learning opportunities.
- Works in concert with educators, building based administrators and the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to identify and define trends in classroom practice throughout the district that would inform and support effective planning for professional learning.
