Department: Electric Operations
Location: Central Parkway Service Center
Serves as the lead person in trimming and maintaining vegetation around power lines and right-of-way to ensure the safety and reliability of our electric system and report to the Vegetation Management Coordinator. This position provides general work planning for the tree trimming crew. Responsibilities include training, assigning and directing workflow of employee(s).
Key Responsibilities
Oversees and performs the vegetation management around power lines and right-of-way.
- Provides training and assistance to tree trimmer position.
- Trim and remove trees, brush and chip vegetation interfering with power lines.
- Clear and maintain Right-of-Way in designated areas around power lines.
- Safely operate equipment such as bucket trucks, chain saws, chippers, and other tools used in tree trimming and vegetation management.
- Utilize rigging techniques and equipment to perform tree trimming duties.
- Maintains and cleans tools and equipment used in tree trimming tasks.
- Performs daily and monthly maintenance on vehicles and other equipment.
- Stock and restock truck with supplies.
- Adhere to Decatur Utilities Safety Policies and the use of personal protective equipment PPE.
- Complete all required training course work provided by Decatur Utilities or other training facilities.
- High School diploma or GED
- 3 - 5 years additional work-related experience and or training.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to operate radio system.
- Ability to effectively communicate one-to-one with customers, co-workers and supervisors.
- Commercial Drivers License Class A, CPR/1st Aid Certified, Customer Relations Training
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move line tools, equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.
- Must have skills and agility to climb trees and climb in and out of bucket truck on a regular basis.
