This position will perform all operations pertaining to the installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical equipment and circuitry including electric motors, programmable drives, high voltage circuits, electrical control panels, programmable logic controllers, etc. Work involves a thorough knowledge of the electrical trade, and an understanding of the plant operating principles is required to ensure that equipment functions properly and safely.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, production machines and equipment.
- Works from drawings, wiring diagrams, piping diagrams, schedules, schematics, and work orders.
- Observes and trouble-shoots mechanical and electrical devices in operation.
- Plans layout and installs various machines and equipment, electrical power lines and circuits with necessary safety devices.
- Disassembles, repairs, or replaces damaged parts. Reassemble, transport, move, erect, align and level machines for proper operations.
- Installs and repairs all types of electronic equipment including PLC programmers.
- Maintains and installs electrical services throughout the facility including lighting, HVAC, etc.
- Installs new equipment, mount fixtures, run conduit, pull wire, connect wiring, etc.
- Performs Preventive and Predictive Maintenance as assigned by supervisor.
- Requisition tools, materials, and supplies through the supervisor.
- Understands and follows company Lock/Out Tag/Out procedures.
- Follows all safety rules and maintains PPE, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, Arc flashing clothing, gloves, and hearing protection in good working condition.
- Trouble shoots and maintains relay logic circuits, starters, motors, electrical metering devices and electrical measuring devices.
- Fabricates and installs metallic and non-metallic conduit, buss duct and wire raceway.
- Designs and builds various control panels.
- Lubricates electrical motors.
- Maintains knowledge of National Electrical Code.
- Trouble shoots and repair programmable controllers, NC, CNC, radio-controlled devices and DNC machine tools and equipment.
- Operates material handling equipment and man lifts according to OSHA standards.
- Maintains equipment and working area in a clean and orderly manner.
- Assists in other maintenance department operations and other duties as directed by a supervisor.
- Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
- Prepares sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Works from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
- Advises management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Responsible to act in accordance with all DFI policies and procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
a. Education and / or Experience
High school diploma and technical certificate or licensing is strongly preferred or equivalent amount of education/experience. Three to five years of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and overall machine troubleshooting experience. Must have a strong knowledge in industrial electricity, electronic applications, and electrical theory (analog and digital).
b. General Skills
Ability to read and comprehend instructions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to respond appropriately to inquiries or complaints. Ability to apply common sense and respond to instructions, written or oral. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be self-disciplined and able to multi-task. Must be dependable, responsible, detailed-oriented and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be flexible for schedule changes and some weekend availability.
Knowledge of the National Electrical Code. Ability to troubleshoot & repair equipment. Experience working with 480 volt, 3-phase systems. Ability to work on equipment at heights of up to 40 feet. Must have experience reading and troubleshooting PLC ladder logic. A demonstrated commitment to safety and quality. Well diversified in electrical and mechanical repair. Familiarity with complex machinery, electrical circuits, and other operating equipment. Ability to work with limited direction and guidance to prioritize work. Able to work well and communicate with all functional departments within the company and outside vendors/contractors.
c. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Maintains certifications, continuing education and other required staff development programs required by the company. Must participate in forklift and aerial lift training and obtain forklift certification.
