Job Summary
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and light commercial HVAC systems, while working under the direction of lead technicians, as well as performing tasks independently as needed. This role requires a foundational understanding of HVAC systems, including electric and gas heating, mini-splits, and ductwork. The HVAC Helper plays a vital role in job site cleanliness, tool and equipment management, vehicle maintenance, and ensuring consistent safety practices.
The ideal candidate demonstrates a proactive, solution-oriented attitude, collaborates effectively with team members, and maintains professional communication with customers and vendors. Technical competence with tools, basic diagnostics, system airflow calculations, and documentation processes is essential. While this is not a supervisory role, it requires accountability and informal leadership through consistent follow-through and teamwork. The HVAC Helper is instrumental in delivering high-quality workmanship, maintaining efficiency, and supporting the overall success of the HVAC team.
Duties/Responsibilities

- Keeps company vehicles clean, organized and stocked with necessary materials
- Schedules timely service and maintenance for company vehicles
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This role does not include direct supervisory duties but does require cross-functional collaboration and informal leadership through accountability, support, and follow-through.
Skills and Abilities
- Fundamental understanding of HVAC systems
- Basic knowledge of electric heating systems
- Basic knowledge of gas heat systems
- Basic understanding of mini-split HVAC systems
- Effective troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Familiarity with HVAC-specific tools and equipment
Education And Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited HVAC training program or technical school certification preferred
- Relevant certifications such as EPA 608 Certification (Type I, II, or Universal) preferred
- Additional certifications (e.g., NATE, OSHA 10/30, HVAC Excellence) are a plus
- Experience in residential or light commercial HVAC service, installation, or maintenance
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 50-75 pounds
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and operate lifts or scaffolding as needed
- Comfortable working in environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, and dusty or noisy environments
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for handling tools, wiring, and equipment installation
- Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and respirators
- Strong stamina and endurance to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
