The bulk of our work however is with the Hispanic community and mostly immigration related. We're currently a team of 10 always looking to add more to our "DDL" family. The firm was founded by two siblings, Marvin and Marva De Armas. Coming from a Cuban-American background, this dup has created a family-centric Lawfirm that focuses on quality and care. De Armas & De Armas Law, PLLC, a boutique law firm in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, is seeking a Legal Assistant (Spanish speaking REQUIRED) with prior immigration law experience to join our growing team. Our practice consists of immigration defense, criminal law, and family law cases. The bulk of our work, however, is with the Hispanic community and mostly immigration related. We're currently a team of 14 looking to add more to our DDL family. We're a fun group - We have administrative work days where we dress casually and have lunch together, conduct monthly team building and outings to get to know each other, and prioritize physical and mental health. We are looking for a self motivated individual to ensure smooth running of the office and effective case management. You will provide a broad spectrum of legal services under the supervision of an attorney and paralegal. Duties may include assisting with filing various court documents, meeting with clients and preparing forms, drafting templates and calendaring. The ideal candidate has prior immigration law experience, is organized, detail-oriented, and committed to supporting clients with professionalism and empathy. It's very important that our future team member is ORGANIZED and great at time management. You will spend 2 weeks with hands on training and shadowing the team as well as visiting the courts and judges to familiarize yourself with our work.
Looking for applicants with great organizational skills, ability to multitask, self-motivator, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and help wherever needed. Must be a dedicated professional with a positive attitude. The pay is hourly and is based on experience. Base pay is $20 but can be more depending on your experience with the field. Consideration for pay increase are done after the first quarter following a performance review with the administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys with preparing and filing immigration applications and supporting documentation (USCIS and EOIR).
- Draft client correspondence, legal forms, and case summaries.
- Maintain and organize case files, ensuring all deadlines are tracked and met.
- Communicate professionally with clients in both English and Spanish, providing updates and collecting necessary documents.
- Schedule appointments, hearings, and interviews.
- Support attorneys with case preparation for court and interviews.
- General administrative duties, such as answering phones, research, and customer service.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) – required.
- At least 2 years of experience in immigration law (law firm or nonprofit setting).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and immigration case management systems (Clio, LawLogix, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with family-based immigration, asylum, VAWA, and removal defense filings.
- Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate.
