Legal Secretary – Municipal & Litigation Practice
Beier Howlett is a well-recognized, full-service Oakland County law firm located in Troy, Michigan. Our clients expect prompt service and great results, and we do our best to meet those expectations. We are seeking an experienced Legal Secretary to join our busy municipal and litigation practice. This role will support attorneys handling municipal law matters (including prosecution and general municipal work), as well as litigation and other practice areas within the firm as needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing all aspects of the prosecutorial docket, including case intake, scheduling, tracking, and coordination with courts, police, and witnesses.
- Providing secretarial and administrative support to attorneys in a variety of practice areas, with a focus on municipal law and litigation.
- Preparing, proofreading, and filing legal documents, correspondence, and court pleadings.
- Managing calendars, deadlines, hearings, and court dates.
- Assisting with case organization, file maintenance, and client communications.
- Coordinating with colleagues to ensure coverage, efficiency, and effective workflow in a team-oriented environment.
Qualifications:
- Prior legal secretary or legal assistant experience is required, preferably 5 or more years (municipal or litigation experience a plus).
- Familiarity with prosecutorial processes and court procedures preferred.
- Due to the nature of the position, a criminal background check including fingerprinting is required.
- Knowledge of all court systems and E-filing experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a small firm setting where cooperation and flexibility are essential.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Hours, Compensation and Benefits:
Our full-time legal assistants generally work from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. While this is an in-office position, there is some flexibility for the right candidate. Salary is commensurate with demonstrated experience level and abilities.
