Summary:    

 The Corporate Counsel will provide guidance to DCI Donor Services, Inc. (“DCIDS”), of which DCI is sole member; working with DCIDS and DCI company executives, as well as operations, regulatory and clinical personnel in the DCIDS corporate office and its three organ procurement organization sites, tissue bank and eye bank divisions.     

DCIDS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to saving and improving lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Advise DCIDS leadership and the DCIDS Board of Directors, and report to them as needed in legal-related matters
  • Advise and provide oversight on compliance-related matters at the federal, state and accreditation/certification organization levels to ensure DCIDS remains aligned with various requirements and expectations
  • Handle contracts and other legal documents
  • Research and guidance on complex regulatory issues
  • Handle transactional projects
  • Interact with a wide range of legal and business persons

    All in furtherance of DCIDS’s mission goals.

Compliance with DCIDS/DCI programs:  Corporate Counsel will be accountable for adhering to the DCIDS and DCI Standards of Conduct.  All employees are required to promptly report all known or suspected compliance-related violation or concerns.

Qualifications:

Applicant should reside in the metropolitan Nashville, Tennessee area or be willing to relocate to the area upon hire.  Applicant will be expected to perform at least some or their duties in-office, with any hybrid work subject to prior review and approval and subject to change. 

Education and/or Experience:

 Licensed attorney holding a J.D. or equivalent degree from a recognized law school. 

  • Tennessee licensure highly preferred, but other exceptional candidates holding out-of-state license considered upon condition of obtaining Tennessee licensure.
  • 3 years of transactional legal experience, preferably in healthcare law with knowledge in organ procurement organizations highly preferred.
  • Experience in health care law as well as general corporate and business law is preferred.
  • Experience in compliance programs and expectations thereof in a healthcare environment is advantageous.

 Language Skills:
 
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal documents.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies and  members of the business community
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors

Employees are expected to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of paper and electronic DCIDS/DCI creates, receives, transmits, and maintains in accordance with company policies and applicable law.  This is accomplished by following DCIDS and DCI privacy policies and procedures, including HIPAA requirements where applicable.

 Since this is a healthcare environment, there is a possibility of exposure to infectious/contagious diseases, hazardous chemicals and materials, needle sticks, and exposure to blood and body fluids.  Further information regarding this position’s specific work exposure category will be provided during orientation.  This position is classified as Category III.
