We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Bindery Operator specializing as a Stitcher to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining binding machinery to produce finished print products that meet our high standards of quality. Your expertise will ensure efficient workflow, precise binding, and consistent output for a variety of print projects. This is an on-site, 1st Shift position scheduled to work Monday - Friday.
Responsibilities
- Perform stitching operations; sets signature pockets and cover feeder, sets up gauges and mechanisms to detect doubles; operates saddle stitcher; makes decisions on methods of stitching jobs; changes knife on trimmers; performs minor stitcher head maintenance.
- Able to read and understand job ticket/instructions
- Complete production records (time sheets, job tickets, PACE, etc.)
- Does routine preventative maintenance.
- Instruct others in technical and mechanical operations of equipment.
- Oversee helpers and inspect finished products to make sure that helpers are following the correct procedure and order of the signatures.
- Cleans up and keeps work area safe, neat and orderly.
- Perform other duties as requested when needed.
Requirements
- Ability to read and understand written instructions including those dealing with dimensions and quantity.
- Ability to apply written instructions to machine set-up.
- Good knowledge of stitchers and binding operations and set-up practices.
- Knowledge of the operation and function of other bindery equipment and machinery.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
- Heavy Lifting, able to lift over 45 lbs. repeatedly
- Able to work standing/walking on feet all day
- Excellent overall health and physical condition
- Frequent stooping/bending
- Frequent crawling/climbing/kneeling
- Frequent repetitive motion
