Job Summary
This position is located in the Department of Employment Services (DOES), Operations Bureau. The Department of Employment Services (DOES) mission is to connect District residents, job seekers, and employers to opportunities and resources that empower fair, safe, effective working communities.
The incumbent functions as Security Risk Officer and is responsible for monitoring all occupational safety and security issues in all department facilities and worksites and to assist in the abatement of safety and security deficiencies in these areas. The incumbent will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure all safety measures are in compliance and adhered to.
Duties And Responsibilities
Implements safety and security policies, procedures, programs and guidelines applicable to agency operations, facilities and equipment. Surveys agency facilities and worksites routinely to determine compliance with established safety standards; devises and implements measures to control and/or alleviate recognized hazards; advises Chief Operating Officer of the safety measures which may need to be immediately employed; and seals off areas until corrective action has been taken.
Plans, schedules, and conducts inspections of department facilities and worksites to identify and correct hazards and ensure compliance with established safety criteria – and then follows up to ensure that the necessary corrective actions have been taken. Serves as Liaison with national and local safety agencies (OSHA, NIOSH, NSC, HSEMA, Police and Fire Departments, etc.) to discuss improved safety and security mechanisms, techniques and technologies with these agencies. Prepares comprehensive written and oral reports of identified safety and other hazards with recommendations for corrective action.
Qualifications And Education
Specialized experience: this position requires one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lowest grade level (e.g., if the position is a grade 9, the next lowest grade is grade 12 or equivalent) in the District of Columbia government.

Working Conditions/Environment
The work is performed in a normal office setting.

Duration of Appointment: Career Service – Term (Not-to exceed 13 months)

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not covered by the collective bargaining unit.
Position Designation: This position has been designated as security sensitive therefore the incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability and as such, incumbents of this position shall be subject to criminal background checks, background investigations, and mandatory drug and alcohol testing, as applicable.
