Job Summary

This position is located in the D.C. Department of Corrections (DOC), Office of Resources to Empower and Develop You (R.E.A.D.Y.) Center. The R.E.A.D. Y Center will offer a pathway to individuals returning to the community (returning citizens) to access critical services and opportunities they need to successfully transition back into the community (i.e., housing, employment, education, health care, vital documents, and substance use/ mental health aftercare) within a single location.

Duties And Responsibilities

Plans and carries out various phases of the program and handles problems and deviations in accordance with standing instruction and official policies and/or accepted practices in the specialty area of outreach. Plans and coordinates outreach services for returning citizens. Recommends multiple services to improve outcomes such as employment, education, job opportunities, and health and housing stability. Considers and evaluates such factors as familial relationships, educational background, socioeconomic factors, marital status, employment history, work skills, substance abuse, physical and mental health status and personal desires and services in developing participant Personal Road Map to ensure a successful and seamless reentry process.

Maintains caseloads, develops plans of action, and recommends and connects clients and families with services identified for specific individuals and their family. Documents all contacts and submits reports when necessary. Takes appropriate action to protect sensitive and confidential case information according to agency protocol and guidelines. Conducts interviews with residents, relatives and others to obtain pertinent information to be included in social to overall evaluation of resident’s receptiveness of rehabilitative efforts expended on their behalf.

Qualifications And Education

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. To be creditable, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the line of progression.

None.

Working Conditions/Environment

The work may be performed within a correctional facility, in the community that at times includes the homes of family members, hospitals, churches, and community service locations.

Other Significant Facts

Tour of Duty: Hours of work will vary as required by the needs of the program to include split days off, and fluctuating tour of duty, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

Pay Plan, Series, and Grade: CS-0301-09

Promotion Potential: No known promotion potential.

Duration of Appointment: Career Service Permanent.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Non-Union): This position is not covered under a collective bargaining agreement.

Position Designation: This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and periodic Criminal Background Checks and Traffic Records Checks (as applicable). This position is also subject to mandatory pre-employment and random Drug and Alcohol Testing. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.”

TB test will be required prior to entry on duty.

Residency Requirement: Applicants claiming “Residency Preference” will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
