PCB Drafter/Designer

We are a manufacturer of military high-power transmitters and power supplies, designing and manufacturing products for over 30 years. All phases of manufacturing are performed at dB Control, from electrical and mechanical design, assembly, encapsulation, and test. Along with manufacturing production orders for the past 30 years, dB Control is continually developing new products every year. These products are developed for multiple platform applications, including airborne, shipboard, and ground.

The dB Control Engineering team is looking for a PCB Designer using Altium. As a PCB designer, you will create electronic layouts for printed circuit boards (PCBs) using Altium Designer software, translating electrical schematics into manufacturable designs. Key responsibilities include component placement, signal trace routing, ensuring design compliance with IPC standards, and generating manufacturing files. This role requires strong collaboration with electrical and mechanical engineers, and a deep understanding of circuit design, signal integrity, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).

Responsibilities:

  • Develop complete layout and engineering drawings of complicated components and assemblies such as schematics, interconnect lists, parts breakdown printed circuit board layouts, etc., from notes, rough sketches or general instructions from engineers and designers.
  • Must effectively apply Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), 2D and 3D concepts, to perform drafting projects.
  • Prepares complex mechanical and electrical layouts providing proper component relationships, positioning, clearances and tolerances. Takes measurements and makes dimensioning calculations. Determines scales, inserts reference planes, center and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning.
  • Maintain accurate records of all drawings, revisions, and supporting documentation.
  • Document modifications through the change order process (ECO).
  • Collects and organizes data and information required by engineers & other technical sources.
  • Maintains and recommends Quantum drafting standards and ANSI industry standards.
  • Stays informed of CAD system design methodology (software and hardware).
  • Applies machine shop practices to ensure the most cost-effective methods of tooling and machining of appropriate engineering changes.
  • Convert electrical schematics into functional, manufacturable PCB designs.
  • Create detailed PCB layouts in Altium Designer, including component placement, trace routing, signal integrity, and high reliability (class 3) designs.
  • Prepare and review complete manufacturing packages, including Gerber files, for fabrication and assembly.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers and other teams to optimize designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Maintain and manage electronic component libraries within the design environment and PLM systems.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with or understanding of Altium, Protel, and Solid Works.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and any MRP system.
  • Working knowledge of PDM and parts libraries.
  • Strong GD&T knowledge.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of high reliability standards.
  • Knowledge of high voltage designs (creepage/clearance requirements).
  • Experience with DFM and Design for Testability (DFT) principles to ensure designs can be easily manufactured and tested.

Requirements:

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • A.S. degree in Drafting and 4 or more years of experience or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
  • The ability to work with multiple discipline projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to Learn, detail oriented and good with numbers
  • Good multitasking and time management skills
  • Needs to be able to interact with different departments, different personalities
  • Other duties as required/assigned
  • Advanced skills in using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Strong understanding of PCB design principles, multilayer stacks, signal integrity, and power integrity.
  • Ability to read datasheets, select appropriate components, and understand their footprints and mechanical requirements.
  • AutoCAD, Protel, Altium, other 2D/3D modeling software, stress analysis and simulation software experience is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
