What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant II position at Daytona State College?
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field
- At least 3 years of related work experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Annual budget responsibilities to support Funds 3-4, plus the Athletic and WDSC components of Fund 2; includes creating work papers to support projections and other information and analysis necessary including personnel assignments, contract renewals, anticipated State or other funding, support, prepaid and encumbrance roll forward, etc.
- Month-end includes the preparation of monthly Board Repots (Auxiliary Fund Reserved, Budget Amendments), as well as assigned Fund budget to actual analysis, preparation of budget amendments and journal entries in software or via journal upload, assuring correct used of DOE Accounting manual chart of account object codes and SubFunds.
- Year-end responsibilities include analysis and reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers to general ledger activity for assigned Funds; Payment of PCORI fee for Health Insurance. Year-end responsibilities including compilation of WDSC-TV trial balance and account reconciliation
- Maintains banking for the TV Station. Interacts with staff, different departments (including property management and facilities), and banking entities to ensure accuracy of accounts. Prepares monthly reconciliations of Bank Accounts.
- Provides extensive research, analysis, and troubleshooting as it relates to the financial and budgetary aspects of the College.
- Serves as point of contact for various departments in the College regarding their SubFunds, including Auxiliary Services (News Journal Center, Museum, Bookstore, Food Services), Benefits and Athletic Camps.
- Oversees Funds 3 and 4, as well as the Athletics and WDSC Components throughout the year, reviewing and reconciling throughout the year. Assist with the preparation for annual reports and/or audits, working closely with restricted fund staff.
- Attends staff, committee, and other professional meetings to exchange information. Cross trains in the Department as needed.
- Reviews direct payment request, vendor invoices, and purchase requisitions verifying use of correct object code, sub fund and approval levels prior to Accounts Payable payment.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned and directed by the President or their designee
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and reporting requirements
- Knowledge of accounting software and database data extraction
- Provide a high degree of computerized accounting experience
- Ability to work with accounting personnel as well as other departments to gain information and ensure accuracy of accounting transactions
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
