The Healthcare Specialist provides assistance to the physicians and practitioners with patient care, administrative, environmental, and organization tasks. Uses approved protocols to assist the Physician and Advanced Practice Provider in providing direct patient care relating to all aspects of Physician ambulatory treatment involving telephone communication and clinical care.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, eight hour shifts
No evenings, weekends or holidays!
This position is onsite in office at our Kettering location

This position requires a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.
OR
An active LPN license in the state(s) of practice.
Current CPR certification, if not it must be obtained within 60 days of employment and kept current thereafter.
General Skill Requirements:
Requires the ability to hear and speak clearly. This position is normally required to sit approximately ninety (90) percent of the day with an occasional need to walk, bend, twist and carry 5-10 pounds a distance up to four (4) feet. This position requires the ability to answer telephone calls, transfer calls and work on the computer.

- Triage patient calls related to prescription refills, new medication requests, and pharmacy issues.
- Verify patient information, medication details, and allergies before routing or processing requests.
- Document all calls and patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Monitor and manage provider and nurse inbaskets for medication requests and patient messages.
- Route clinical questions, urgent concerns, and symptom-related calls to the appropriate nurse or provider per protocol.
- Prioritize and complete inbasket tasks within established timelines to ensure timely follow-up.
- Provide patients with clear instructions or updates regarding prescription status and next steps.
- Coordinate with pharmacies, patients, insurance companies, and providers to resolve refill denials or medication availability problems.
- Support quality and process improvement efforts related to phone triage, prescription management, and inbasket workflow.
- Prior Authorizations: Initiate and submit prior authorizations for medications according to organizational protocols. Track and follow up on pending authorizations to ensure timely completion. Communicate authorization status to providers, pharmacies, and patients as appropriate. Assist in resolving coverage issues or insurer requests for additional information.
- May assist with clinical duties such as greets and assists with patient flow; collects and prepares lab specimens; prepares patient rooms; assist with taking and documenting vital signs; assists providers with patient care; submit prescriptions to pharmacies as directed; answer calls; takes messages for providers; relay patient results
- Follow all health care privacy and safety rules and adheres to Dayton Physicians Core Values;
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position requires a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.

An active LPN license in the state(s) of practice.

- Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience with a Practice Management system is preferred.
