PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The fundamental purpose of the District ELA/Social Studies Coordinator is to collaborate with district and campus instructional leadership to deepen the effectiveness of Pre-K-12 ELA/Social Studies instruction on each campus and increase student achievement districtwide. This role emphasizes curriculum implementation, teacher support, and student achievement. The coordinator collaborates with campus leaders, instructional coaches, and teachers to promote rigorous, engaging, and standards-aligned instruction across all grade levels.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s preferred).
Valid teaching certification with the required endorsements
Minimum of 5 years teaching and coaching experience
Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, or professional learning
Strong knowledge of ELA and social studies standards, curriculum, and assessment practices
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Leadership experience
Special Knowledge/Skills
Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and teacher professional development, including the implementation and support of HQIM (High Quality Instructional Materials) (preferred).
Strong knowledge of Pre-K–5 ELA and Social Studies standards, HQIM (High Quality Instructional Materials), curriculum alignment, and assessment practices.
Exhibit in-depth knowledge of best practices for instruction, effective professional development, including coaching and mentoring
Demonstrate the ability to coach and support instructional coaches and teachers in the critical attributes of instruction and student engagement, and data analysis to inform instructional practices.
Build collaborative relationships within campuses and the district
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Extensive knowledge of the TEKS) and state assessments
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Leadership
Support the implementation and alignment of Pre-K-12 curriculum with state and district standards.
Ensure access to high-quality instructional materials and resources for all classrooms.
Collaborate with teachers to develop effective lesson plans, instructional strategies, and assessments.
Create and maintain an environment of trust and respect with campus and district staff through regular, ongoing communication.
Work collaboratively with campus instructional coaches to ensure seamless delivery of ELAR and social studies instructional programs to all learners.
Maintain open communication about instructional effectiveness using student performance data.
Work cooperatively with the Teaching and Learning Department staff and campus leadership to actively monitor and meet all accountability measures related to student performance in ELA and Social Studies
ELAR and social studies education and research-based best instructional practices.
Lead social studies curriculum development, implementation, and alignment with state standards.
Support teachers in creating engaging, standards-aligned social studies instruction.
Analyze student performance data to guide instructional improvement and interventions.
Professional Development
Plan and facilitate professional learning for teachers in ELA and Social Studies.
Provide coaching and mentoring to instructional staff to improve teaching practices.
Assist principals and instructional coaches in observing and supporting classroom instruction
Assessment & Accountability
Administer and interpret formative and summative assessments.
Monitor student achievement and support campuses in closing learning gaps.
Prepare reports and communicate ELA and Social Studies findings to district leadership.
Program Coordination and Collaboration
Collaborate with the Director of Teaching and Learning to ensure vertical alignment of Pre-K-12 ELA and Social Studies curriculum.
Share Pre-K-5 instructional data trends to inform 6-12 planning and interventions.
Participate in district-level initiatives and discussions regarding Pre-K-12 literacy and social studies programs.
