Overview
The Lead Welder is responsible for leading the welding department while producing high-quality weldments that meet customer specifications and industry standards. This position mentors welders, ensures quality and safety, and helps keep projects on schedule. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader who takes pride in craftsmanship, solves problems, and sets the standard for excellence within the shop. Candidates must be willing to obtain and maintain certifications in various welding processes as required.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the welding department.
- Perform TIG, MIG, FCAW, and Stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Read blueprints, weld symbols, and WPSs.
- Ensure weld quality, safety, and on-time completion.
- Train and mentor welders while maintaining a clean, organized work area.
Qualifications
- 7 years of professional welding experience.
- Proficient in TIG and MIG welding.
- Strong blueprint reading skills and knowledge of AWS/ASME standards.
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Must pass Dawson Performance welding and print reading tests.
