What are the responsibilities and job description for the Juvenile Probation Officer position at Dawson County Juvenile Probation Department?

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science (i.e. criminology, law, social work, psychology, or sociology or related field approved by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department) from an accredited college or university recognized by the Texas Higher Education Board;

· Applicant must possess a Valid Texas driver’s license and safe driving record;

· Applicant must be able to obtain a Juvenile Probation Officer Certification as regulated by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department within six months of being hired;

· Must have No convictions or deferred adjudications for criminal offenses other than minor traffic violations in the past 10 years.

· Must be able to work irregular work hours and cover on-call 24-hour rotations.

Duties:

- Conduct assessments and investigations to determine appropriate probation terms and conditions
- Monitor probationers' compliance with court-ordered conditions
- Provide counseling and support to probationers to facilitate their successful reintegration into society
- Develop and implement individualized case plans to address probationers' specific needs and goals
- Conduct regular meetings with probationers to assess progress and address any issues or concerns
- Collaborate with community resources and service providers to connect probationers with necessary support services
- Prepare detailed reports for court hearings, documenting probationers' progress, compliance, and any violations
- Enforce court orders and take appropriate action in response to probation violations

Experience:

- Strong report writing skills, including the ability to accurately document case notes, assessments, and progress reports
- Background in social work or related field, with an understanding of human behavior and the challenges faced by individuals on probation
- Experience in crisis management, with the ability to handle high-stress situations calmly and effectively
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures and legal principles related to probation supervision
- Proficient in conducting interviews and utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to engage probationers in the change process
- Familiarity with case management principles and practices, including the ability to develop individualized plans and monitor progress

This position requires a high level of professionalism, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. The successful candidate must also have a valid driver's license and be able to pass a background check.
