Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts and help sustain the vital services our community relies on. In this role you will design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, direct mail campaigns, and corporate partnerships. You will report directly to the CEO and collaborate with our leadership team, Board of Directors, Davis Street Foundation and development staff to grow revenue and strengthen relationships with donors.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement strategies and tactics for growth and success across all areas of fundraising, including major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, direct mail, and corporate and foundation grants
  • Manage and develop a portfolio of approximately 250 current, lapsed, and prospective donors, deepening relationships in person, virtually, over the phone, and in writing
  • Engage donors and prospects at events and other venues
  • Plan and execute regular donor cultivation events, house parties, and briefings, working closely with staff, board members, and Host Committee members
  • Provide stewardship and recognition for major donors
  • Write persuasive presentations, proposals, emails, letters, and reports for donors and prospects
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator to develop compelling fundraising materials and campaigns
  • Work closely with the CEO, senior staff, Board President, Board of Directors, and Davis Street Foundation to build and empower the Board’s fundraising capacity
  • Report on fundraising progress and share results with the CEO and Board of Directors
  • Work with senior staff to develop budgets, monitor revenue and expenses, and drive financial results
  • Personally solicit gifts and collaborate with the CEO on donor solicitations
  • Staff the Fundraising Committee of the Board and provide training to board members on fundraising best practices
  • Oversee donor and prospect management systems, ensuring accurate tracking of moves management and donor activity
  • Create and implement a planned giving program, including marketing and solicitation of planned and blended gifts
  • Generate new ideas that increase revenue and donor retention
  • Oversee all aspects of the Annual Giving campaign, including direct mail and online giving
  • Solicit gifts and sponsorships for the Annual Gala
  • Develop a pipeline of donor prospects for the Annual Giving campaign and guide the development team to follow it
  • Achieve monthly goals for prospect and donor visits and prepare follow-up reports and correspondence
  • Engage regularly with the donor database to maintain accurate and up-to-date records
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 5 years of progressively challenging fundraising experience, with experience and understanding of all general fundraising methods (direct mail, major gifts and events in particular) required.
  • Experience in managing a major gift portfolio preferred.
  • Experience in developing a culture of philanthropy in a medium to large-sized nonprofit preferred.
  • Experience in CRM systems like Salesforce, RE7, RE NXT, and/or Blackbaud preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building abilities with a collaborative approach to working with co-workers, volunteers, and donors; a natural team-builder.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of donor confidentiality and respond to donor issues with tact, diplomacy, and poise.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer proficiency skills including word processing and internet utilization.
  • Passion for and dedication to the mission of Davis Street, including an understanding of and interest in the social and political causes of poverty.
