What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney position at Davis O'Sullivan & Priest LLC?
Davis O'Sullivan & Priest is actively looking for a kind, conscientious, intelligent, and curious attorney to join our small firm, whether as an active member, or as an associate intending to stay with us and grow with us. We offer flexibility, a great work experience, a good reputation, and enormous opportunity. Our work ranges from the typical care of individuals, rich and poor alike, through their life journeys to purposeful work helping those on the fringes of society due to disability or poverty. We also encourage those interested in advocacy for the elderly and disabled.
Responsibilities
A new hire's responsibilities will vary based on experience, from providing support to senior attorneys on complex matters to acting as principal attorney subject to supervision and guidance on other matters. Tasks include handling probate estates, drafting estate planning documents, assisting with Medicaid applications, and advising clients on a host of matters from entitlements to tax issues. While legal research is always part of practice, the emphasis will be on practical assistance to clients at affordable rates.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications: Besides your law degree and clean disciplinary record, we expect you to have an attitude of commitment and caring, as well as an appreciation for the law as a profession with high ethical standards that put clients, not profits, first. We expect you to be able to express yourself well in writing; depending upon background we may request a writing sample. We expect you to be curious, eager, and interested. We are open to an established solo practitioner who wishes to join us, to a newer attorney willing to learn and grow. We are also open to someone wishing to join us and bring in a different but related area of practice. A background in social work, government benefits, and/or financial planning is a plus as is a background requiring knowledge in income tax and mid-size estate tax matters.
