Davidson-Davie Community College is seeking to fill part-time Broadband Telecommunications Instructor positions to lead a vocational training program at Davidson Correctional Center in Lexington, NC. The successful candidate will play a vital role in inmate rehabilitation by preparing individuals for meaningful employment in the telecommunications industry upon reentry. This role requires a professional with deep technical expertise, a passion for teaching, and the patience and adaptability to work effectively within a correctional facility.
This position reports directly to the Division Chair, Business and Workforce Training. Job requirements include but may not be limited to:
Essential Job Functions:
- Promotes College mission, values, and vision
- Complete C-Tech instructor certification training: Participate in the required C-Tech training session and pass the exams to become a certified instructor.
- Deliver C-Tech curriculum: Teach standardized C-Tech courses on broadband infrastructure, fiber optics installation, and network cabling using the provided lesson plans and interactive workstations.
- Conduct hands-on training: Lead practical, lab-based sessions where students use C-Tech's proprietary equip
- Assess student progress: Evaluate student learning through assignments, exams, and practical projects to ensure they are prepared for C-Tech certification.
- Maintain classroom and lab environment: Ensure a safe, secure, and productive learning environment, including the proper care and management of C-Tech training equipment in compliance with facility protocols.
- Adapt teaching methods: Customize instructional strategies to address a diverse range of student learning levels, skills, and backgrounds in a correctional setting.
- Mentor and guide students: Prepare students for industry-recognized C-Tech certifications, which support their successful reintegration into the workforce.
- Collaborate with facility staff: Work cooperatively with correctional officers and other facility staff to ensure a secure and effective educational program.
- Carries out a program of self-evaluation to determine instructional effectiveness
- Prepares and submits instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy
- Maintain Equipment and ensure proper storage and security of supplies
- Determines need for supplies
- Prepares and submits attendance records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy
- Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- 2 years of hands-on experience in the broadband telecommunications field, including fiber optics, coaxial cable installation, and/or network troubleshooting or an Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution with a concentration in Information or Telecommunication Technology, or a combination of education and employment experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Proven evidence of leadership ability, supervisory experience and commitment to teamwork
- Ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environment
- Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 year of prior teaching experience in a classroom/lab setting
- Proven experience in mentoring
- Prior teaching experience in a community college
