What are the responsibilities and job description for the Account Executive, Wind-Down position at David Joseph & Company?
Our client is a seed-stage legal-tech company (founded 2023) helping founders wind down their companies — handling the legal, tax, and operational side of a shutdown while unlocking value from the business's existing data and IP. They've gone from zero to a multi-million revenue run rate in a matter of months, are backed by well-known early-stage investors, and partner directly with leading AI labs. The team is small, growing fast, and building at high intensity.
Founded 2023 · 11-50 people · Industry: Legal Tech
The RoleYou'll run a consultative, full-cycle sales motion that helps founders shut down operations and return more capital to their investors. You'll own qualified deals from the first conversation through signed close, working warm referral flow while building your own pipeline on top of it, and negotiating the data and legal terms underneath each deal. This is an empathetic sale during a difficult moment for a founder, so the approach is always about genuinely helping — including walking away when the fit isn't right. You'll report directly to the founder and work alongside a small pod.
What you'll be doing
- Build and manage your own pipeline on top of inbound referral flow
- Run consultative, empathetic conversations with founders navigating a shutdown
- Own deals end to end, from first conversation through signed close
- Negotiate data pricing and legal terms, and know when to walk away from a bad-fit deal
- Ramp into a subject-matter expert on wind-downs and data licensing
- Adapt and improve an early-stage playbook as you learn what works
- 2-4 years in a client-facing role — enterprise sales, consulting, investment banking, partnerships, business development, or data deals
- A concrete, individually-attributable track record of hitting or exceeding a number (quota, revenue, or deals closed) you can point to directly
- A genuine hunter mentality: you build and close pipeline you source yourself rather than waiting on inbound, and you want to be measured on it
- High EQ and IQ — able to read a sensitive room, build rapport with founders, and ramp quickly on complex privacy, legal, and compliance topics
- Comfort working on-site five days a week in a high-intensity, in-person environment
- Experience in data licensing, sourcing, or selling data
- Background at an AI lab, a data-labeling company, a top-tier consulting firm, or an investment bank
- Exposure to legal, privacy, or compliance-heavy deal negotiation
- Experience adapting an early-stage playbook rather than running a fixed, mature process
- A ground-floor seat at a fast-growing, category-defining business partnering with leading AI labs
- Uncapped variable comp and meaningful equity, working directly with the founder
- A consultative, high-trust sale where the relationships you build compound into future pipeline
- Location — New York City, NY (Dumbo, Brooklyn)
- Work policy — On-site, 5 days/week
- Compensation — $150K base / $320K OTE (uncapped) equity
- Visa sponsorship — None available
- Employment type — Full-time
Salary : $150,000 - $320,000
