The Surveying and Geomatics Business Unit is seeking a Survey Party Chief in Salt Lake City, UT.
This role involves managing a survey crew or working independently to perform boundary, topography, ALTA, right-of-way, and construction surveys for both public and private clients. The Survey Party Chief will also be responsible for operating and maintaining survey equipment, collecting and processing field data, performing calculations, and collaborating with DEA staff and clients. In addition, this position will provide direction, mentoring, and coaching to crew members to support their professional growth.

The Surveying and Geomatics Business Unit is seeking a Survey Party Chief in Salt Lake City, UT.
This role involves managing a survey crew or working independently to perform boundary, topography, ALTA, right-of-way, and construction surveys for both public and private clients. The Survey Party Chief will also be responsible for operating and maintaining survey equipment, collecting and processing field data, performing calculations, and collaborating with DEA staff and clients. In addition, this position will provide direction, mentoring, and coaching to crew members to support their professional growth.
What You’ll Do
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and perform boundary, topography, ALTA, right-of-way, and construction surveys
- Operate and maintain survey equipment, including Trimble total stations, Trimble GPS equipment, and Leica electronic levels
- Collect and process field data; perform complex survey computations using software such as Trimble Business Center and Leica
- Maintain detailed and accurate field notes, data collection files, and computation sheets
- Inspect and verify accuracy of deliverables before submission
- Coordinate, lead, and mentor survey crew personnel
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in boundary and construction surveying
- At least 2 years of experience managing a field crew
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate vehicles in Utah
- Willingness to travel out of town for up to 10 days at a time
- LSIT certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying or a related field
- Proficiency with Trimble instruments
- Experience with laser scanning technology
- Familiarity with UDOT safety and survey requirements
