Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks across local and regional routes, following all DOT (Department of Transportation) and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper securing of cargo including hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan optimal routes, monitor progress, and make adjustments as needed for timely deliveries.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, inspections, and cargo details in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor-trailer to identify mechanical issues or safety concerns before and after each trip.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and logistics teams to coordinate pickups, deliveries, route changes, and delivery documentation.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a valid CDL A license.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations related to hours of service, safety standards, and hazardous materials handling
- Proficiency with GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time tracking.
- Strong understanding of load securing techniques for various cargo types including dangerous goods.
- Experience with route driving that emphasizes safety, efficiency, and customer service excellence.
