Position Summary
The Community Engagement Director provides mission-critical leadership to The Library’s senior team through development of an organizational engagement strategy, including identifying and developing key relationships with our community’s partners, stakeholders, elected officials, donors, and funding agencies, that aligns with the Strategic Plan and Diversity & Inclusion statement.

•    Technological Skills: Demonstrates ability to use computers. Demonstrates ability to access and use the Internet and electronic databases.  Demonstrates ability to use and maintain equipment basic to job.
•    Workplace Maintenance/Management: Maintains and manages workplace security and safety. Pays attention to personal workspace housekeeping.
•    Flexibility and Adaptability: Remains calm in difficult, ambiguous, and challenging situations. Responds appropriately to changes in direction and priorities. Adapts personal style to work situations. Takes corrective action when required.
•    Interpersonal and Group Relationships: Willing to work with and for others. Supports and facilitates cooperation among others.
•    Professional Standards and Ethics: Protects and values patron confidentiality and organizational security. Supports mission and vision of the library. Upholds American Library Association's Library Code of Ethics as interpreted by The Library. Works toward furthering a library-conscious community.
•    Professional Development and Leadership: Seeks opportunities to pursue one's personal goals and those of the organization. Sets and models high performance standards. Encourages others to make good decisions and take ownership in decision-making and problem-solving.
•    Time and Workflow Management: Manages personal time effectively. Manages workflow effectively.
 
Environmental Conditions

Primarily works indoors, seated at a desk, using a computer. Travels among facilities. Provides own transportation and is reimbursed accordingly.

Essential Functions
1.    Oversees the development of an inclusive community engagement strategy that embeds The Library effectively within its diverse service area and maximizes its positive impact on area residents. Provides expert guidance on communicating The Library’s role and impact in community development. Establishes channels for public input regarding library service, guides Fundraising Coordinator in identifying key community partners, and builds relationships with library donors, partners, and elected officials.

2.    Serves as a spokesperson for The Library with individuals and groups. Understands and effectively communicates the role of The Library in the community.

3.    Assists the Executive Director in identifying and developing business, community, foundation, and individual prospects in support of The Library’s strategic and fundraising priorities.

4.    Develops and oversees the implementation of a variety of activities and events that support community and donor relations, including leading planning of fundraising events that effectively communicate the mission of The Library.

5.    Produces quality content for fundraising and advocacy messaging and assists with development of marketing materials and messages.

6.    With Executive Director, sets strategy for The Library’s fundraising plan and provides input to the
development of its marketing plan.

7.    Assigns, plans, and oversees the work of assigned staff. Evaluates and audits work flow and quality in the department, adjusting procedures and policies as necessary to maintain speed and quality of Community Relations services. Monitors the expenditure of donor-related programming budget.

8.    Provides leadership to Capital Area Library District in fundraising and marketing.

9.    Lives by the Core Values.

10.    Attends staff meetings. Prepares monthly narrative and statistical reports.

11.    Performs other related duties.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
BA degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Public Administration or related field. Certification in Fundraising (CFRE or CFRM) a plus.

Experience: 5 years’ experience in a communications leadership or fundraising role, three years’ supervisory experience.

Required: Excellent written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience with crafting communications and meaningful interactions with diverse audiences. Commitment to ongoing learning and ability to manage change. Strong organizational skills. Requires independent transportation for travel to libraries, programs, and meeting locations.
 

Salary : $72,000 - $76,000
