MEP Lead – Data Centre Projects
Location: Flexible across key regional hubs (Texas, Georgia, Kentucky, Arizona)
Overview
- A leading design–build contractor specialising in mission-critical and industrial projects is seeking an experienced MEP Lead to lead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing operations across large-scale data centre developments throughout the south eastern and western United States.
- This position offers the opportunity to shape project strategy from design through delivery, manage multiple concurrent projects, and lead a team of technical professionals within a high-growth, high-performance environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Oversee all MEP functions from preconstruction through commissioning on multiple complex projects.
- Lead coordination between design, engineering, and field operations to ensure quality, cost, and schedule objectives are achieved.
- Facilitate start-up meetings, client updates, and project action reviews, ensuring all deliverables and documentation are up to date.
- Conduct regular site visits to review progress and resolve technical or logistical challenges.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Own financial performance for MEP scope, monitoring budgets, forecasts, and project profitability.
- Develop proposal strategies and cost estimates for MEP elements within design–build or hard bid projects.
- Review and approve change orders, procurement plans, and subcontractor agreements.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring alignment with company profit and delivery targets.
Scheduling & Performance
- Direct the development and maintenance of MEP schedules to align with overall project milestones.
- Identify potential delays or constraints and implement corrective measures in collaboration with construction and design teams.
- Monitor material procurement and subcontractor performance to maintain schedule integrity.
Risk & Quality Management
- Lead MEP risk management planning, identifying and mitigating potential cost, schedule, or safety risks.
- Ensure all work complies with project specifications, codes, and quality standards.
- Drive a proactive safety culture across all project phases.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the senior point of contact for all MEP-related matters, maintaining strong client, consultant, and subcontractor relationships.
- Develop communication and relationship management plans to support smooth information flow and alignment across all parties.
- Represent the company in technical and commercial discussions with customers and partners.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor and develop senior project managers, project managers, and engineers within the MEP division.
- Conduct performance reviews, set development goals, and ensure continuous professional growth.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and solutions-focused team culture aligned with company values.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with architectural, structural, and field operations teams to drive integrated project delivery.
- Contribute to company-wide strategy, proposal development, and resource planning for the MEP business unit.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in design–build or construction management, with at least 7 years of P&L responsibility across multiple projects.
- Proven success managing large-scale, technically complex projects (data centre, manufacturing, distribution, or industrial).
- In-depth knowledge of multiple contract types (lump sum, GMP, cost-plus, and fee-based models).
- Strong financial acumen with a record of improving project profitability.
- Excellent understanding of MEP systems, cost structures, procurement, and installation procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to develop aggressive schedules and deliver within budget and quality parameters.
- Skilled in mentoring and leading cross-functional project teams.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
Additional Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with scheduling or estimating software.
- Willingness to travel as required to project locations.
- Physical ability to perform occasional site inspections (lifting up to 25 lbs, climbing ladders, etc.).
Work Environment
- This role combines office and field-based responsibilities, balancing strategic oversight with on-site leadership. Travel to active projects across multiple states is expected.
