Senior Electrical Engineer – Power & Energy Systems

DataSoft is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for a permanent opportunity supporting energy, power, utility, and infrastructure-related projects. This role is well suited for an experienced electrical engineer with a strong background in power systems, energy resiliency, power distribution, substations, renewable energy, and complex electrical design.
The selected candidate will support multidisciplinary teams delivering electrical engineering and advisory solutions for clients across energy, utility, industrial, campus, and infrastructure markets. This position will involve both technical design leadership and client-facing responsibilities, including concept development, planning, detailed design, technical advisory support, and project execution.
This role may also include mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, supporting design teams, contributing to technical strategy, and assisting with pursuit and business development activities for energy transition and power infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering design efforts for power, energy, and utility-related projects
- Develop concept-level plans, technical solutions, and detailed electrical design packages
- Support power distribution, microgrid, renewable energy, energy storage, substation, and utility infrastructure projects
- Prepare and review design calculations, construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineering documentation
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, client-facing teams, and technical stakeholders
- Provide technical advisory support, due diligence, and design management input as needed
- Mentor junior and mid-level electrical engineering staff
- Support project delivery by anticipating technical challenges and helping resolve design issues
- Assist with client discussions, technical strategy, proposals, and pursuit efforts when required
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- 8 years of electrical engineering design or consulting experience
- Experience with power distribution systems, microgrids, power generation, or utility infrastructure
- Experience with high-voltage or medium-voltage substations
- Ability to develop electrical design calculations, construction drawings, and technical specifications
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision after direction is provided
- Experience with 3D design/modeling tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, CADWorx, Navisworks, or similar platforms
- U.S. citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer license preferred
- Ability to obtain PE license within one year strongly preferred
- Power system modeling experience using SKM Power Tools, ETAP, or similar software
- Experience with renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, or related technologies
- Experience with energy storage systems
- Experience with protection and control, SCADA, or power system automation
- Experience with campus utility master planning, decarbonization planning, or climate response planning
- Experience with cogeneration or combined heat and power systems
- Experience with thermal utility plants and distribution systems, including steam, hot water, and chilled water systems
- Experience in consulting, design management, project management, owner’s engineer support, contract management, technical advisory, or due diligence roles
