Plant Manager

Job Summary

The Plant Manager provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and hands on management of a fast paced wire and cable manufacturing facility. This role is accountable for meeting all site performance targets including safety, quality, delivery, productivity, cost, and continuous improvement while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence. The Plant Manager oversees production, maintenance, quality, safety, logistics, and workforce development while ensuring compliance with OSHA, ISO, environmental, and corporate standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all daily plant operations across production, maintenance, quality, safety, and logistics

• Develop and implement production plans that meet customer demand, delivery expectations, and cost goals

• Maintain strong floor presence by conducting daily walks to monitor performance, resolve issues, and support supervisors

• Oversee coordination and flow of production throughout the factory by optimizing labor, materials, and equipment utilization

• Ensure machines, lines, and equipment operate efficiently with minimal downtime

• Implement production scheduling, workforce planning, and resource allocation processes

• Address bottlenecks, material shortages, and process deviations in real time to maintain throughput

• Work with Sales, Marketing, and corporate leadership to align plant capabilities

• Champion Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools to reduce waste, scrap, rework, and cost

• Implement KPIs and use data driven decision making to improve performance and profitability

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, ISO quality standards, and corporate policies

• Act as the site primary safety and compliance leader

• Maintain accurate documentation including SOPs, training records, quality logs, and production records

• Ensure all products meet customer requirements and internal and ISO standards

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance product quality and service delivery

• Drive corrective actions and root cause analysis for deviations or recurring issues

• Direct, mentor, and develop supervisors, team leaders, and hourly employees

• Conduct performance reviews and lead training initiatives

• Establish KPIs and hold teams accountable for results

• Promote teamwork and cross functional collaboration

• Oversee shipping, receiving, inventory control, and warehouse operations

• Partner with Purchasing to minimize shortages and optimize supplier performance

• Plan and manage capital expenditures aligned with business strategy

• Collaborate with vendors and contractors on equipment installations and upgrades

• Contribute to annual budget development and strategic planning

• Manage operating expenses, labor costs, scrap, and other cost drivers

• Analyze production costs and identify opportunities to improve margins

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor degree in Business, Industrial, or Manufacturing related field required

Experience

• Seven to ten years of manufacturing experience

• Three to five years of plant leadership or supervisory experience

• Strong understanding of continuous manufacturing

• Demonstrated success in safety management, production planning, and workforce leadership

• Experience leading Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, automation, or continuous improvement initiatives

• Prior responsibility for scheduling, quality, manufacturing engineering, and operations

Skills and Competencies

• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, PMP, or equivalent preferred

• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem solving skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and manufacturing systems

• Ability to work on site full time and respond to off shift operational needs

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and use hands in a manufacturing environment

• Ability to work on the production floor and in lab environments

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

• Occasional domestic and international travel may be required
