Responsibilities
- 1. Orientation and Onboarding
- Coordinates and implements unit based orientation programs for nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, LNAs, patient care assistants, and others) new to DHMC or transferring to assigned unit
- Delivers training and ensures new staff competency regarding organizational systems, including, but not limited to, point of care testing, medication dispensing systems, electronic health record
- Assigns preceptors in collaboration with unit leadership
- 2. Competency Management
- Manages competencies for nursing staff on assigned unit
- Collaborates with unit leadership to identify appropriate competencies and ensure program is carried out in a timely and coordinated fashion
- Participates in the development of and implements staff competencies based on needs assessments, regulatory requirements, policy/procedure changes, new equipment and quality metrics
- 3. Education
- Conducts and participates in practice gap analysis and learning needs assessments
- Participates in the development of, implements and evaluates education programs related orientation, competency and continuing nursing education
- Demonstrates innovation within designated programs
- Integrates technology into educational programming
- Participates in the development of new educational programs as identified through needs assessment, gap analyses or regulatory requirements
- 4. Role Development
- Implements and maintains unit-based orientation programs for new to practice staff and staff transitioning from one specialty or role to another in alignment with accreditation criteria
- Participates in the development of and implements initial and ongoing preceptor development programs
- Supports succession planning
- Conducts career coaching
- Supports clinical advancement models
- 5. Collaboration
- Collaborates with other departments to facilitate high quality, cost effective patient care
- Participates in the development of and implements interprofessional education in collaboration with interprofessional colleagues
- Participates in interprofessional committees
- Supports and is a champion for excellence initiatives and shared governance
- 6. Inquire
- Participates in research, evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives
- Collects, analyzes and presents data related to educational programs
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required OR
- Non-nursing bachelor’s degree AND Associate’s Degree in Nursing with commensurate experience and matriculation into a Master’s in Nursing program required
- 3 years of clinical experience in identified specialty.
- Excellent informatics, verbal and written communications skills desired Nursing Professional Development-Board Certified preferred within 1 year
