The Breast Imaging Fellowship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise in all aspects of modern breast imaging while enjoying individualized mentorship, substantial procedural experience, and an outstanding quality of life.

With only one fellowship position each year, fellows receive extensive one-on-one teaching from dedicated breast imaging faculty and gain the confidence and skills needed to thrive in either academic or private practice. The program is designed to provide a comprehensive, well-rounded educational experience with progressive autonomy, preparing graduates to become leaders in breast imaging.
Located in the beautiful Upper Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is the academic medical center for Dartmouth Health and the teaching hospital for the Geisel School of Medicine. Participation in weekly tumor boards and radiology-pathology conferences provides a deep understanding of contemporary breast cancer care.

Teaching, Leadership, and Career Development

Research Opportunities
Fellows are encouraged to participate in clinical and translational research projects, including breast imaging technology, population health, and breast cancer screening outcomes. Opportunities exist for presentation at national meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Nationally Recognized Education
The fellowship is directed by Petra Lewis, an internationally recognized educator in breast imaging. Fellows receive extensive individualized teaching throughout the year and are supported in attending the annual Society of Breast Imaging meeting.

The Department and Dartmouth Health

The selected candidate will join Dartmouth Health’s 60 radiologists. We are an internationally-known Department with a deep history in the field, beginning with acquiring the first clinically x-ray in the United States in 1896. While Dartmouth Health includes many hospitals and clinic sites, this position is based at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, our tertiary care central hub which also serves as the system’s Academic Medical Center. DHMC is the state’s only Level 1 trauma center, a certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, and is home to a fleet of helicopter and ground-based medical transport services.

Qualifications

Required Licensure/Certifications

- Completion of an ACGME-accredited Diagnostic Radiology residency prior to fellowship start - ABR board eligible or board certified - Eligibility for medical licensure in New Hampshire and Vermont - We welcome applicants interested in pursuing careers in academic radiology, private practice, or hybrid models of breast imaging practice. - We cannot consider applicants with a J-1 waivers, as it requires a 3-year commitment.
