Darkbird Taphouse in Peosta, IA is looking for an experienced Kitchen Manager to lead back-of-house operations in a fast-paced taphouse environment. We are a craft beer and cocktail destination known for our rotating selection of 20 beers on tap, elevated pub-style menu, and a lively, community-focused atmosphere built around great food, drinks, and hospitality.
Key Responsibilities -
Leadership & Training:
- Lead and support all kitchen staff during prep and service.
- Train new employees on procedures, recipes, safety, and kitchen standards.
- Maintain a positive, accountable, and efficient team environment.
Hiring & Staffing:
- Recruit, interview, and hire kitchen team members.
- Ensure proper staffing levels to meet business needs.
- Manage call-offs, shift coverage, and staffing adjustments.
Scheduling:
- Create and maintain weekly kitchen schedules.
- Balance labor needs with budget and business volume.
- Adjust schedules based on events, specials, and peak times.
Ordering & Inventory:
- Order food and kitchen supplies from approved vendors.
- Track inventory and ensure product availability.
- Maintain proper food rotation and FIFO practices.
- Receive deliveries and verify quality and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Previous kitchen leadership or management experience preferred.
- Strong skills in scheduling, ordering, and team management.
- Ability to train and develop staff effectively.
- Organized, dependable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
