Overview
Position Summary:
Dark Horse Dispensary is seeking an experienced, disciplined, and results-driven Store Manager to lead daily retail operations, ensure strict inventory control, and drive consistent sales growth.
This is a high-accountability leadership role responsible for full store execution. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and capable of managing inventory, team performance, and store KPIs with precision.
The Store Manager is expected to take ownership of store performance, maintain operational excellence, and provide clear, data-driven reporting to ownership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Store Operations
Oversee all daily dispensary operations in alignment with company standards
Enforce opening/closing procedures with full accountability
Ensure store cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness at all times
Execute operational tasks, audits, and reporting accurately and on schedule
2. Cash Handling & POS Oversight
Oversee all cash handling procedures including drawer counts and reconciliations
Ensure accuracy in all POS transactions, refunds, and adjustments
Maintain strict cash controls and enforce loss prevention standards
3. Inventory Management & Loss Prevention (CORE FOCUS)
Maintain accurate, real-time inventory across POS and state systems (METRC)
Conduct cycle counts, audits, and reconciliations regularly
Investigate and resolve discrepancies immediately
Manage receiving, storage, stock rotation, and product lifecycle
Prevent shrinkage, overstocking, and aging inventory
Analyze product movement and optimize inventory levels based on performance
4. Store Performance & KPIs (CRITICAL)
Own and drive key metrics including:
Daily/weekly/monthly sales
Average ticket size
Conversion rate
Product velocity & sell-through
Margin performance
Identify underperforming categories and implement corrective strategies
Drive upselling, cross-selling, and revenue growth initiatives
5. Merchandising & Sales Execution
Execute pricing, promotions, and visual merchandising strategies
Ensure all in-store and online menus are accurate and aligned
Coordinate product placement based on performance and demand
Support brand activations and vendor promotions
6. Team Leadership & Accountability
Lead, train, and supervise budtenders and staff
Enforce professionalism, discipline, and performance standards
Create efficient staff schedules aligned with business demand
Hold team accountable for sales performance, behavior, and policy adherence
Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development
7. Customer Experience
Ensure exceptional, consistent customer service
Maintain strong floor presence during operating hours
Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently
8. Compliance & Security
Enforce all NY OCM regulations and company policies
Ensure ID verification, transaction compliance, and security protocols
Maintain inspection readiness and accurate documentation at all times
9. Reporting & Communication (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
Submit weekly performance reports to ownership, including:
Sales performance
Inventory status & discrepancies
KPI tracking
Action plans for improvement
Communicate issues proactively and in a timely manner
10. Marketing & Online Execution
Maintain accurate online menus, pricing, and promotions
Support in-store marketing initiatives and campaigns
Coordinate with brands on promotions and product launches

Pay range: $47000 to $48000 per year
Required skills
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 5 years of leadership experience in a high-volume retail sales environment.
- Proven track record of developing talent.
Desired skills
Qualifications & Experience:
- 3 years of retail management experience (cannabis preferred)
- Strong inventory management and operational experience
- Experience with POS systems (Alleaves preferred) and METRC
- Knowledge of New York cannabis regulations (OCM)
- Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment
- Experience working in a retail environment with inventory including some sort of regulated product (e.g., alcohol, pharmaceuticals, perishables, etc).
Preferred seniority
Overall: Mid-level (2-5 years) or higher
Cannabis industry: Some (1-2 years) or higher
