Overview:
Danville Community School District is seeking a passionate and dynamic Junior High/High School Band & Choir Teacher to lead and grow our instrumental and vocal music programs. Qualifications:
- Valid Iowa Teaching License required
- Valid endorsement in Music (K-12).
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field
- Experience in both vocal and instrumental instruction (preferred but not required)
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire students and build a strong, inclusive music community.
Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum:
- Teach junior high and high school band and choir classes.
- Develop and implement standards-based music curriculum that supports skill progression and musical literacy.
- Instruct students in vocal and instrumental technique, music theory, and ensemble performance.
Performance Preparation:
- Organize and direct student performances, including concerts, festivals, and community events.
- Prepare students for honor bands, solo and ensemble contests, and other music competitions.
- Manage all aspects of performances including music selection, rehearsals, and logistics.
Classroom & Program Management:
- Maintain a positive, organized, and respectful classroom environment.
- Oversee the care, maintenance, and inventory of music equipment and instruments.
- Collaborate with other staff members to schedule rehearsals and performances.
Student Engagement:
- Promote student participation and pride in the music program.
- Encourage growth, leadership, and teamwork through music.
- Support individual student development, including those with varying levels of musical experience.
Communication & Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues about student progress, performance schedules, and classroom expectations.
- Work closely with administration and staff to support school-wide initiatives and events.
Professional Development:
- Engage in ongoing professional learning to remain current with best practices in music education.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and school functions.
